Gianfranco Frattini

Gianfranco Frattini

Italy

Gianfranco Frattini was an influential Italian architect and designer, born on May 15, 1926, in Padua, Italy. He graduated from the Politecnico di Milano in 1953 and later became a pivotal figure in the Italian design movement of the late 1950s and 1960s. Frattini's style is often associated with Modernist design, characterized by its clean lines, functionalism, and innovative use of materials.

One of his most notable creations is the Lina Armchair (Model 831), designed in 1955. This armchair, nominated for the prestigious Compasso d'Oro award, features an unusual wood frame that gives it a solid yet lightweight appearance. Its slender legs and bent plywood element supporting the seat back are a testament to Frattini's innovative approach to design.

Another iconic piece by Frattini is the Sesann Sofa, designed in 1970. This sofa, reintroduced by Tacchini in 2015, is celebrated for its bold volumes and elegant, sophisticated design. The Sesann collection includes sofas and armchairs with soft, cozy forms that evoke feelings of warmth and sensuality.

Frattini's work is a blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting his deep appreciation for craftsmanship and his forward-thinking approach to industrial design. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the world of furniture design, making him a revered name in the realm of Modernist design.
